    (To. P. D. in Italy)

Do you remember how happy hearted,
Before we parted, were you and I?
Do you remember those sweet September
    Days before we said good-bye?

What times we wandered beneath a mellow
    Moon among the yellow sheaves!
What times we made gay trips together
Oe’r hills of heather those autumn eves!

Time passed.  Our barques by fate were driven
From home’s calm haven, divergent ways.
Yet sure am I we’ll still remember,
Those dear September nights and days.
